Slam Dunk 2017: What To Wear, How to Prepare

Follow me on Bloglovin’ to keep updated with my posts!

So, you’ve already seen the line up, you’ve got a good few recommendations on who to see from my previous blog post. Now is the question of how to prepare and what to wear. Don’t worry, I’ve got you covered.

If you didn’t know already, Slam Dunk is a day long festival, so there’s no camping involved which is always a win in my books. As much as I love camping, sometimes it’s nice to not be stuck in the dirt overnight with drunk people making noise all around you, and worrying if it’s safe to leave your tent unattended. What’s even better is that each date has some of the stages inside, so if it rains (which is always likely in England), you have the option of going inside.

Despite this, you should still prepare for the worst. Make sure you bring something that will shield you from the rain. My favourite raincoats are from Topshop. I love them so much I have it in two different colours, and would buy more if my boyfriend didn’t keep telling me two is enough and I should save my money for all the other stuff I want. You could bring an umbrella, although I’d probably decide against as it can be really annoying in a crowd of people who are all trying to see the stage and enjoy the bands, but have your umbrella hitting them in the head and blocking their view.

Now the obvious raincoat is out of the way, what else should you wear? Well, here’s a selection of outfits I’ll be choosing from on the day! Wearing flats is an essential as you’re gonna be on your feet most of the day. You also want to make sure your shoes are something you don’t mind getting dirty, as you could be stepping in dirt outside, especially if it rains, and if you get into the crowd, someone will probably step on them at some point. My go-to shoes are my converse, or my Vans Old Skools. I’d opt for black in both cases as these don’t look as dirty when they’re trodden on by other people. Find more details at the end of this post!

You’ve got your outfit sorted, now you’re going to want to pack a bag to go with it. I love my Lush tote bag, although I’d recommend a backpack if you have one for extra security, or even a bumbag if you don’t have much to carry. Both the latter are also a lot easier to carry around. Packing water would be a go-to for most people, but actually a lot of festivals don’t allow you to bring outside liquids, so these might be taken off you. I’d save the space in your bag and buy this on site, or you can bring an empty one to fill up on site. The same goes for food, and many sites won’t allow you to bring your own food. If you have special dietary requirements, I’d send them a tweet and see whether you can bring your own food with you!

Slam Dunk is also one of the few festivals that lets you bring cameras on site without a photo pass, so if you wanna get some high quality shots of the day, you can pack your camera! I’d also pack a spare pair of socks, because if it rains you’re going to really appreciate a dry pair of socks! If you plan on drinking, you definitely need to pack some form of ID too, whether it be a driving license, passport or PASS card. Student ID isn’t a valid form of ID guys!! Alongside your ID, you’ll need to pack some cash too as most places don’t accept card payments, and if there’s ATM’s nearby, they’ll charge you an ungodly amount to get some cash out.

Here’s a quick checklist of what to pack before you go. Luckily, you don’t need all that much as it’s a day festival!

  • Ticket (you’re getting no where without this!)
  • Spare socks
  • ID
  • Cash
  • Portable phone charger
  • Sunglasses
  • Camera
