Fusilli Carbonara

Today may possibly the proudest day of my student life so far. I made an actual meal from scratch! I have been in love with carbonara since I went on holiday to Processed with VSCOcam with f2 presetTurkey in 2007 and tried the spaghetti carbonara there. I’ve never tasted one like it since but I am holding on hope. They left a yolk in the centre of the spaghetti which burst everywhere once you poked your fork into it, which just added to the excellent taste. Unfortunately, I’m not brave enough to try that yet. I’m scared I’ll get food poisoning. Using raw eggs for this recipe was scary enough, even though the pasta is said to cook them!

Anyway, enough jibber jabber. Here is a PDF file of the recipe. It was inspired by a recipe I found on the BBC Food website. I made a few tweaks to it, mainly the measurements of the ingredients. I felt that 350g of pasta looked like far too much so I reduced this down. But yeah, I am super happy with how this turned out and it worked out at about £2 per portion, which I thought was pretty good. It’s cheaper than microwave spaghetti carbonara at Sainsbury’s and it contains almost half the calories!
